After over years in unlawful detention, the Australian Government is continuing to transfer hundreds of Manus and Nauru refugees to the United States with barely more than the clothes on their backs, and now in the middle of a devastating pandemic.
With America’s refugee support system in tatters following massive cuts under the Trump administration, new arrivals are provided with short-term, threadbare support – as Australians in the United States, we aim to fill the gap and give them the welcome they deserve and the support they need to build a new life for themselves and their families.
Together, we’ve built a volunteer network of hundreds of Aussies and allies across the United States and around the world, all working to give every newly arriving man, woman and family the best possible chance at a new start. In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, we’ve raised money to provide emergency medical support, to keep families from being evicted and to help individuals train and apply for well-paid, COVID-safe employment.
